Fort Okanogan State Park & Interpretive Center
Fort Okanogan State Park & Interpretive Center is 5 mi. e. on US 97, then .5 mi. e. on SR 17, then s. on Fort Okanogan Rd. to park entrance. Dedicated to the history of Fort Okanogan, an early 19th-century fur trading post, the interpretive center overlooks the fort's original site and explains the fur trade through displays of artifacts, dioramas and a video presentation. John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Co. established the fort in 1811, and it is considered to be the state's first settlement. The fort was acquired by the Hudson's Bay Co. in 1821. St. Mary's Mission
Father Etienne de Rougé founded this Jesuit mission in 1886 to minister to the 12 bands of the Colville Federation. The present church dates from 1910.
