Othello, Washington is in the heart of the Columbia Basin project, an irrigation network made up by the Grand Coulee Dam. This network supplies water to over 600,000 acres of land. Over 60 different crops are grown because of the water supply and the moderate temperatures. Over half of the nation's French fries are made from potatoes grown in this area.

Since 1948 Othello has been hosting the Othello PRCA Rodeo, the rodeo has the reputation for being one of the best in the nation. The Columbia National Wildlife Refuge is near Othello. With 23,000 acres of refuge it is the host to smaller lakes in the Columbia River Basin.
