Visiting Seattle Metro Area

Seattle, Washington State's capital and largest city, developed on evergreen hills and appropriately nicknamed the “Emerald City”. Set on the shores of Puget Sound, Seattle's setting is idyllic. The city is an economic and cultural center for the Northwestern United States, drawing travelers for business, conventions and vacations. The readily recognizable Space Needle graces Seattle's skyline, orienting travelers to the excitement of downtown. Seattle's Boating Season 2010 opening day is May 1st. Celebrations are focused on Lake Washington's easternmost point. At the Montlake cut and ship canal revelers can watch the Boat Parade celebrating 2010s theme, Out of This World. Visitors can count on seeing some other worldly boat decorations and enjoy an out of this world good time. Festivities include popular crew and sailboat racing, drawing large crowds to the water. A weekend of fun both on the water and the surrounding Seattle Yacht Club lawns. Celebrate and enjoy Seattle's cultural heritage of boating and water and kick off boating season.

Seafair Seattle's month long summer celebrating sponsors a variety of exciting and popular events for residents and visitors to the northwest. Kicking off Seafair 2010, the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon & Half Marathon is June 26th. The Gateway Corporate Center in Tukwila is the starting line for both the marathon and half Marathon. The Best Western Airport Executel and the Best Western River's Edge are convenient locations for runners and fans traveling for the races. These Best Westerns are near the starting line, with the downtown finish 15 minutes away.

Seafair events continue through July and into August, culminating with Hydroplane races and the festival's traditional Air Show. Keep the first week in August on the calendar to watch the fastest power boats in the world on Lake Washington. Nearby Genesee Park will be jammin' with music all weekend. Sample the regions best food and drink, there are beer gardens for adults. The Kid's Zone in the park provides all day rides, jumps and games for the kids. Seafest is the pinnacle of summer fun, a great day filled with sunshine, thrilling boat races and fly-overs by the amazing Blue Angels.

Ever think about racing in a triathlon? Seattle's 2010 Benaroya Research Institute Tiathlon at Seafair is a great entry-level triathlon event. One of the Northwests most popular, this is a sprint level event with a 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3.1 mile run. Kids from 6 to 12 years old can participate in a Splashers event limited to a 50 yd swim, 1 mile bike and .2 mile run, or the Dashers distance including a 150 yd swim, 2 mile bike and .5 mile run. Geared for the entire family, everyone is welcome to participate and have fun at this event on July 18th.
